This vessel is from the Nagareru series. Taken from the Japanese word for flowing, the piece is a balance between two forces. The textured portion of the piece is made to represent the movement of the world. Tectonic plates, river beds, and volcanoes. The smoother portions represents the stillness of the world. The two sides are in constant motion with each other and seek to form a balance. The piece is high fired with a stoneware slip and porcelain body manipulated to cause various effects in translucency. The upper portion of the piece is woven with hand spun cotton through punctures in the porcelain. There are imperfections and many small moments of happenstance creating the balance sought. This piece measures 13” x 6” X 6”
