RRVR SERIES:

This series of drawings were made with the intention of removing a recognizable image and replacing it with an abstract field of repetitive marks.  The marks form a pulsating barrier for the viewer to get stuck in.  Your eyes track around the piece looking for the variations to give your eyes a rest but not much is available.  I want the viewer to feel uncomfortable with the process of not only the marks but the lack of rest in the drawings.

Repetition, Repetition, Variation, Repetition.

ENSO Series:

A series of paintings revolving around the Japanese painting practice of the ENSO. Enso is seen as a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. I take this idea and elaborate on the contents of the circle and the idea of the void or nothingness. These pieces are all about the initial gesture of the circle and the inevitable wanting to rework or fill the space created. It is that anxious nature of creation that is shown by not being able to let the circle rest on its own.
