71. Soft Kintsugi Pink and Purple Nagareru Vessel
71. Soft Kintsugi Pink and Purple Nagareru Vessel
This vessel is from the “Nagareru” series. Taken from the Japanese word for flowing, the piece is a balance between two forces. The lower portion of the piece is made to represent the movement of the world. Tectonic plates, river beds, and volcanoes. The upper portion represents the stillness of the world. The two sides are in constant motion with each other. The piece is Cone 6 fired with glazes manipulated to run and mix. Both sides bleed into each other. There are imperfections and many small moments of happenstance creating a balance.
This piece also has a crack down the top portion of the vessel that is filled with a soft fabric and stitched back together. It is a take on a Japanese Kintsugi process that accentuates imperfections or happenstance usually with gold lacquer. In this case, a soft material that is related to the overall color scheme is used. This piece measures 12” x 7” X 7”
